RFID Journal LIVE!2025: Track to Focus on DOGE Ready

Published: March 19, 2025

The 23rd edition of RFID Journal LIVE! 2025 is beginning to take shape and one of the focuses this year is how recent events in Washington are affecting RFID and other tech-related companies.

The world’s largest conference and exhibition focused on radio frequency identification and related technologies, LIVE typically features more than 100 exhibitors from 26 countries showcasing best-in-class RFID tags, readers, software and implementation services.

The show in 2025 will be held May 6-8 at the Paris Hotel in Las Vegas, NV. The 2025 conference will include three days of industry-specific and how-to tracks, as well as general education for those new to the RFID market. Conference tracks and education sessions give participants the opportunity to hear compelling case studies, share best practices, network with their peers and learn about the latest technological advances from the vendor community.

DOGE Ready

The U.S. Department of Defense is on a mission to facilitate the delivery of innovative, advanced warfighting capabilities. RFID, IoT, AI, robotics, big data analytics, and digital twins are being used to reduce costs, risk, and time in the design and development of defense systems.

For the “DOGE Ready: Harnessing Technology to Improve Efficiency in Government and Aerospace” track, long-time AIM Board Chairman and industry expert Chuck Evanhoe will open with a session about how aerospace, defense and government sectors are using AIDC technologies today and where he thinks they will go in the future.

Speakers in this track include representatives from Intelsat, CAES Honeywell, Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and United States Marine Corps Logistics Command. In addition to the speakers in this track, we also have a Keynote being presented by BAE Systems, one of the largest aerospace, defense and information security company in the world.

Session Title: Industry Perspective: Leveraging Technology in Aerospace and Government

Date: May 6, 2025, 10:15 AM

Speaker: Chuck Evanhoe, president and board chairman, Aware Innovations; AIM

Description: The aerospace, defense and government sectors have been leaders in the use of Automatic Identification and Data Capture (AIDC) technologies to enhance asset visibility by providing the ability to track assets throughout their lifecycle, while transforming asset data into actionable information that supports logistics decisions. Industry expert and RFID veteran Chuck Evanhoe will provide an overview of how these technologies are being used today and what’s on the horizon in the future.

Session Title: CAES by Honeywell Automates WIP Tracking with RFID

Date: May 6, 2025, 11:05 AM

Speaker: Adam Ovebo, warehouse manager, CAES Honeywell

Description: Recently acquired by Honeywell, defense electronics maker CAES has 13 locations in North America, including highly automated manufacturing facilities with fully automated test and tuning processes. At one of its sites, the firm manufactures a mix of classified and unclassified aerospace components as well as high-end electronics. The firm is using RFID to monitor work-in-progress (WIP) and calibrated assets to provide increased efficiency and visibility in production. Learn how CAES successfully went from zero RFID implementation to full-scale usage and how the technology has improved shop floor operations, as well as their future plans for expansion.

Session Title: FDA IDAS RFID Laboratory Asset Tracking Solution

Date: May 6, 2025, 11:55 AM -2:25 PM

Speaker: Gary Moe, ID Integration

Description: IDAS stands for integrated digital asset system, pronounced as “e-dus”. It integrates passive RFID technology to streamline the management of laboratory assets, from chemicals and samples to equipment and supplies. This comprehensive digital asset management system seamlessly integrates with electronic lab notebooks, enabling effortless ordering, receiving, tracking, locating, and reporting. With IDAS, resource sharing across various laboratory staff is optimized for efficiency and collaboration, freeing up time for team to focus on critical research.

Session Title: Intelsat: From ROI to Compliance – Creating a Smart Warehouse

Date: May 6, 2025, 1:50 PM

Speaker: Kris Iversen, senior business analyst, Intelsat

Description: Intelsat, operator of the world’s largest integrated satellite and terrestrial network, identified the opportunity to enhance asset management by using Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology, going beyond traditional warehouse barcode scans to provide real-time inventory visibility throughout the entire process. To drive this transformation, the first step was implementing ATA Spec 2000-compliant RFID labels for Line Replaceable Units (LRUs) for Boeing and Airbus, as well as applying RFID labels to containers and utilizing handheld, mobile, and fixed RFID readers to improve inventory accuracy and reduce the time spent on the annual physical inventory. The firm turned to Aware Innovations to upgrade the existing LRU labels to ATA Spec 2000-compliant RFID tags, certified by Boeing and Airbus. Learn how the firm has created a Smart Warehouse by implementing Aware Innovations’ complete solution, including ItemAware software, RFID hardware, installation, and training. Gain an understanding of how Intelsat has significantly improved inventory accuracy and reduced time spent on tracking and managing materials within their 60,000-square-foot warehouse.

Session Title: Changing the Department of Defense with Passive Radio Frequency Identification

Date: May 6, 2025, 2:40 PM

Speaker: Scott Prouse, action officer, United States Marine Corps Logistics Command

Description: In conducting military operations, understanding what assets are available and where they are is a critical function. The U.S. Marine Corps developed the Marine Corps Platform Integration Center (MCPIC), a system that provides asset visibility by enabling equipment inventory tracking through tagging of mission-critical equipment, allowing system users to access real-time data. Learn how MCPIC has enabled the Marine Corps to shorten inventory times from weeks to hours and has resulted in the savings of millions of labor dollars, greater inventory accuracy, and the ability to successfully pass Department of Defense-mandated audits. Also, gain an understanding of how vendors can do business with the government.
