September 20, 2004—IDBlue, which is being proclaimed as the world’s first Bluetooth RFID reader, has been released by Cathexis Innovations and Baracoda SA. The device is compact, handheld, and pen-shaped so that a user handles it much like any writing implement. IDBlue’s Bluetooth capabilities offer the user freedom to collect and transfer RFID data to a central database wirelessly, providing far more range and flexibility of movement.
