Amazon is working with a leading provider of digital healthcare solutions that use Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) sensors to remotely monitor patients.
Amazon Web Services (AWS) is collaborating with the Vivalink Biometrics Data Platform (VBDP), an advanced system for continuous remote patient monitoring. This partnership combines Vivalink’s medical-grade sensors and edge computing technology with AWS’s cloud infrastructure, offering healthcare providers scalable, real-time access to patient biometric data.
“By combining our expertise in biometric sensors with AWS’s robust cloud infrastructure, we are setting a new standard for remote patient monitoring and personalized healthcare,” said Tom Wang, Vice President of Engineering at Vivalink, in a published report.
About Vivalink Biometrics Data Platform
The VBDP supports integration with over 60 types of medical devices and offers an open architecture that allows interoperability with a wide range of applications, sensors, and artificial intelligence (AI)-based analytics tools.
It builds on Vivalink’s earlier efforts to refine digital health infrastructure and is designed for use across diverse clinical settings, including hospital-at-home programs, decentralized clinical trials, ambulatory cardiac monitoring, and chronic disease management.
Use of BLE
Using Vivalink’s sensor technology, key patient vitals such as ECG, body temperature, heart rate, respiratory rate, blood pressure, and blood glucose are captured using the company’s sensor technology. Data types such as ECG can be recorded with millisecond-level resolution.
Through BLE, these sensors communicate with mobile clients that act as an edge computing layer, processing and encrypting data before transmitting it to the AWS cloud.
Vivalink is an AWS ISV Partner providing digital healthcare solutions for remote patient monitoring in healthcare and clinical trials. By combining medical wearables, advanced algorithms and clinical applications, they provide a more effective and accessible approach to patient care worldwide.
Eyes on Expansion
On their blog, Amazon officials wrote “By combining AWS’s cloud infrastructure with Vivalink’s medical expertise, VBDP is improving healthcare delivery. As remote patient monitoring continues to grow, VDBP provides clinical trial organizations with the security, scalability, and intelligence needed to deliver patient outcomes while reducing operational costs.”
The platform incorporates AWS analytics services, including Amazon Kinesis Data Analytics, to convert raw physiological data into clinically actionable insights. Providers can access real-time dashboards and receive early warning alerts, improving the ability to respond proactively to changes in patient status.
To ensure continuous data availability, the platform includes automatic data capture and synchronization capabilities, maintaining data integrity even during intermittent connectivity issues. A patient compliance suite further helps care teams manage adherence to prescribed treatment plans. The platform has been built to data protection standards that ensures the solution is ready for deployment across various jurisdictions and clinical frameworks.
