Pinea Wine, a boutique winery, won a gold medal at the 2019 International Wine Challenge and has been named by Wine Spectator magazine as one of Spain’s “brightest young wine-making stars.” Representatives from the winery will speak at this year’s RFID Journal LIVE! Europe conference about how it is using Near Field Communication (NFC) technology, a form of high-frequency RFID, to engage customers and give them an experience that will keep bringing customers back. The event will be held on Nov. 13 in London, England, with a day of training courses on Nov. 12.
“This is a great opportunity for brand owners to learn how RFID technology can be used to build a relationship with customers and enhance customer loyalty,” says Mark Roberti, RFID Journal’s founder and editor. “We’re so pleased to have Pinea presenting a case study on this underused application of radio frequency identification.”
Pinea has deployed a system that employs an NFC tag on each bottle, as well as a smartphone app that features content enabling users to tap their phone near the bottle, confirm that it is authentic and engage with information about the wine, including where and how it was produced. The bottles are typically priced at $150 apiece, but that cost is expected to rise. As the value of products like wine goes up, piracy increases as well; hence, the need to ensure bottles are authentic.
During the presentation at RFID Journal LIVE! Europe, attendees will learn why the winery selected RFID, why it chose NFC over UHF RFID, and how the technology and app work together to engage customers. To register for LIVE! Europe or learn more about the event, please visit rfidjournaleurope.com.
