Michael Baucke, Director of Market Development for Tageos, took time out of his schedule to discuss trends in the industry the company sees, biggest growth opportunities and why they are attending RFID Journal LIVE! 2025.
RFIDJournal.com: What does Tageos offer to companies in the RFID space?
Michael Baucke: We are a global leader in the design and manufacture of RFID inlays and tags, offering a comprehensive portfolio of high-quality, innovative RAIN RFID (UHF), NFC, and HF products. These products enable end users —retailers, brand owners, and industrial manufacturers—to identify, authenticate, track and trace, and enhance their product offerings across various applications and markets.
RFIDJournal.com: What are Tageos’ current strategic priorities?
Baucke: Our strategic priorities are focused on Innovation, Global Expansion and Sustainability. We are leverage are new cutting-edge Innovation Center of Excellence for advanced antenna designs, prototyping, and custom products. This enables us to expand our product portfolio with new RAIN RFID and HF/NFC inlays and tags, as well as sensor inlays capable of measuring temperature, strain, and more physical parameters.
At the same time, we are increasing the manufacturing capacity of our ARC Quality certified production sites in the U.S., France and China beyond 11 billion annually to better meet growing global customer demands.
In regard to sustainability, we are growing our portfolio of plastic-free, paper-based RFID inlays (EOS Zero) to meet the growing demand for environmentally responsible products. This includes the development of new antenna technologies and deployment of innovative RFID chips to further improve the carbon and waste footprint.
RFIDJournal.com: Where do you see the biggest opportunities for growth?
Baucke: We are focused on four sectors that we have identified for significant growth opportunities:
- Retail: Meeting RFID mandates and category expansion plans of major retailers with ARC Spec approved products like the ultra-compact EOS-241 and EOS-261 as well as new products for bottle caps and beauty & cosmetics tagging.
- Healthcare and Pharma: Providing RFID solutions that enhance supply chain transparency and product authentication.
- Food sector:We’re seeing a growing demand from groceries and food service companies to leverage RFID for better supply chain visibility and inventory management to preserve freshness of products.
- Custom Developments: There’s a growing demand to develop customer specific inlays and tags for new applications and requirements that cannot be met with existing products in the market.
RFIDJournal.com: What are some of the key industry trends you believe will have a significant impact in the coming years?
Baucke: The industry is seeing an increased demand for sustainable products as consumers and brands are prioritizing sustainability, leading to a higher demand for eco-friendly RFID solutions. IoT is seen as contributing to various sustainability goals and RFID is increasingly seen as a key technology enabling this.
Internationally, upcoming governmental mandates is front of mind for any of our clients. Initiatives like the EU’s Digital Product Passport are expected to drive the adoption of RFID and NFC technologies for product digitization.
